Mucuna bracteata merupakan kacangan penutup tanah yang awalnya banyak dijumpai di Negara Bagian Tripura, tepatnya di India Bagian Utara yang kemudian diintroduksi oleh Golden Hope di Malaysia pada 1991. Kacangan ini memilki banyak kelebihan dibandingkan dengan kacangan penutup tanah (LCC) konvensional seperti Pueraria javanica, Calopogonium caereleum, dan Centrosema pubescent sering kali tidak mampu menekan pertumbuhan gulma, seperti Mikania, Asystasia, dan lainnya. Selain itu kacangan-kacangan tersebut mempunyai kelemahan tidak tahan terhadap naungan dan kondisi kering.
